Tom has practiced in the civil trial arena in Georgia for forty-six years and during that time has tried over five hundred jury trials. Throughout his career, Tom has handled a wide variety of civil litigation including medical malpractice cases, catastrophic injury cases including wrongful death cases, coverage disputes, and every other type of civil lawsuit imaginable. He has tried, to verdict, in excess of seventy-five wrongful death cases and more than one hundred fifty catastrophic injury cases. He has handled cases in all states that are contiguous to the state of Georgia and cases in Texas and Nevada. Tom is a regular speaker at continuing legal education seminars and at medical institutions in Georgia. He regularly participates in educational mock trials for attorneys which have taken place in seven different states. He is a frequent advocate before the Georgia Supreme Court on issues of civil procedure, negligence and other issues involving civil trials. He has also been a legislative advocate for the interests of businesses, insurance companies and medical providers before the General Assembly.
Tom has represented many high profile clients in the course of his civil trial practice including Ray Lewis, linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens; the employer for Richard Jewel in the Olympic Park bombing cases; Allstate Insurance Company in the massive no-fault class actions that arose in Georgia in the 1980's; Piedmont Office Center, Inc. in the day-trader shooting case in Georgia; AFLAC Insurance in a variety of high profile cases; and White Water Amusement Park in the E-coli outbreak at its water park.
For the past eight years, Tom has been an honoree on the Georgia Super Lawyers® list in Atlanta Magazine/Law and Politics Magazine. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 he was honored on the Georgia Super Lawyers® list as one of the top 10 attorneys in the state; and in 2011 and 2012, he was honored on the Georgia Super Lawyers list as one of the top 100 attorneys in the state. Tom is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and beginning in 1991, Tom has been consecutively selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®.
